Altec Digger Derrick Recall 18V745: Crane May Not Warn Operator of Overload, Risking Tip-Over

NHTSA campaign 18V745, reported October 22, 2018, 175 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

The Zone Rating System software on these Altec Digger Derrick units may fail to alert the operator when the load being handled exceeds the rated load for the unit's specific position. Without that warning, the unit can become unstable or lose load control.

An unstable unit or loss of load control increases the risk of injury to operators and people nearby. Owners should not assume the system will warn them of an overload on these vehicles until the update is installed.

Altec will notify owners, and authorized dealers will update the Zone Rating System software at no cost to you. Contact Altec customer service at 1-877-462-5832 (Altec recall number CSN 700), and check your vehicle's VIN for open recalls.
