BMW X5 Recall 18V732: Capacitors May Short and Overheat, Raising Fire Risk

NHTSA campaign 18V732, reported October 17, 2018, 172 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2019 X5 xDrive40i vehicles have capacitors inside the Body Domain Controller, a control unit that manages various electrical functions. These capacitors can short circuit and overheat.

If the controller short circuits, nearby components can also overheat, which increases the risk of a vehicle fire. Affected vehicles were still on dealer lots when the recall was issued, so owners were not mailed letters.

An authorized BMW dealer will replace the Body Domain Controller free of charge. You can also contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417, and check your vehicle identification number for any open recalls.
