Great Dane Everest Recall 18V700: Loose Brake Anchor Pins Can Cause Brake Loss or Fire

NHTSA campaign 18V700, reported October 5, 2018, 197 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Some trailers have automatic brake adjusters whose anchor pins may not have been tightened properly at the factory. The pins can loosen or detach, so the adjusters may not compensate for brake pad wear. This can reduce braking ability or cause a complete loss of brakes, raising the risk of a crash. A loose pin can also jam the adjuster so the brakes drag, which can increase the risk of a fire.

If you own an affected trailer, contact Great Dane customer service at 1-877-369-3493. Great Dane will notify owners, and an authorized dealer will inspect the anchor pin mounting bolts for proper tightness and replace any missing pins. The repair is free of charge.

You can check your VIN for open recalls on the NHTSA website to confirm whether your trailer is affected.

Problem
Great Dane Trailers (Great Dane) is recalling certain 2019 Great Dane Everest CL Multi-Temp trailers equipped with Haldex automatic brake adjusters. During manufacturing, the adjuster anchor pins may not have been properly tightened, causing the pins to loosen or detach.
Risk
A detached anchor pin would cause the automatic brake adjusters to not properly adjust the brakes to compensate for brake pad wear. If not corrected, this could lead to reduced braking ability or loss of brakes, increasing the risk of a crash. Loose anchor pins could cause the automatic brake adjuster to jam, keeping it from returning to its rest position which may cause the brakes to drag, increasing the risk of a fire.
Remedy
Great Dane will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the anchor pin mounting bolts for the proper tightness, replacing any pins that are missing, free of charge. The recall began November 16, 2018. Owners may contact Great Dane customer service at 1-877-369-3493.
