Thomas Built Buses Minotour Recall 18V698: Rear emergency exit may not open fully, slowing escape

NHTSA campaign 18V698, reported October 5, 2018, 701 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain Thomas Built Minotour school buses from model years 2015 through 2019, equipped with 36-inch or 39-inch wide seats, may have a rear emergency exit door that does not open wide enough. The door may not provide the unobstructed emergency exit area required by federal bus emergency exit standards, so the buses do not fully comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 217.

If the rear emergency door does not open wide enough, it may limit passengers' ability to get out of the bus quickly in an emergency, which increases the risk of injury.

The repair is free. Daimler Trucks North America will notify owners, and authorized dealers will modify the rear door slide system to increase the angle the door can open. Owners can contact Daimler Trucks North America customer service at 1-800-547-0712, referencing recall FL-797, and should check their vehicle identification number for any open recalls.
