Yamaha XTZ12 Recall 18V695: Engine may not return to idle, risking loss of control

NHTSA campaign 18V695, reported October 4, 2018, 4,736 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Over time, the protective sealant where the wires from the accelerator position sensor and throttle position sensor connect to the electronic control unit can develop a gap. This can allow corrosion to form on the wires, which may stop the engine from returning to idle after the throttle is released.

If the engine does not return to idle, the motorcycle can lose control, which increases the risk of a crash. Owners of affected 2012 and 2013 Yamaha XTZ12 Super Tenere motorcycles should contact Yamaha customer service at 1-800-962-7926 and reference recall number 990122. Yamaha will notify owners, and the repair is free: an authorized dealer will bypass the wire lead connection with a new sub lead harness multi-connector.

You can also check your VIN for open recalls on the NHTSA website. The recall began October 26, 2018, so if you have not yet had the repair, please schedule it with an authorized dealer as soon as possible.
