Chevrolet Malibu Recall 18V400: Passenger Airbag May Deploy Incorrectly in a Crash

NHTSA campaign 18V400, reported June 14, 2018, 66 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Some 2016-2018 Chevrolet Malibus may have had a Passenger Presence System installed during servicing that was not calibrated to the vehicle's seat type. As a result, the system may fail to tell an adult passenger from a child in the front passenger seat.

In a crash, this could cause the front passenger airbag to fail to deploy when it should, or to deploy when it should not. Improper airbag deployment can increase the risk of injury.

GM will notify owners, and authorized dealers will replace the front passenger Passenger Presence System seat service kit free of charge. Owners can contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 (GM recall number 18208), and should check their vehicle identification number for open recalls.
