Kia Sedona Recall 18V338: Sliding Door May Not Reverse If Blocked, Risking Injury

NHTSA campaign 18V338, reported May 23, 2018, 106,428 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain sliding side doors on these minivans are equipped with a power sliding door system whose software may fail to make the door reverse when its closing path is obstructed. As a result, the door may not stop and retract if it closes on a person or object.

If the power sliding door closes on an occupant, there is an increased risk of injury. Owners should be aware of this risk, especially when children or passengers are near the doors during automatic closing.

The remedy is free. Kia will notify owners, and an authorized dealer will reprogram the power sliding door module software at no charge. You can contact Kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542 and reference recall number SC164, and you should check your vehicle identification number for open recalls.
