Mcneilus Bridgemaster V Mixer Recall 18V322: Hydraulic Tank May Rupture, Risking Burns and Crashes

What this recall means for you

This recall covers certain concrete mixers with an optional composite material hydraulic tank. The filler neck check valve may seal the tank too tightly, causing the tank to overpressurize and possibly rupture.

If the tank ruptures, it can spill hydraulic fluid that may be hot, which could cause burn injuries, and can send plastic debris flying, which could cause injuries. If the vehicle is on the road when this happens, the tank pieces or spilled fluid may create a road hazard that increases the risk of a crash.

The repair is free. Dealers will replace the filler neck at no charge. Owners can contact McNeilus customer service at 1-888-686-7278 and reference recall number VSR-TSB-018. Check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for open recalls to confirm whether your mixer is affected.

Problem
McNeilus Truck & Manufacturing, Inc. (McNeilus) is recalling certain 2008-2018 Bridgemaster V concrete mixers equipped with an optional composite material hydraulic tank. The filler neck check valve may seal the tank too tightly, causing the tank to overpressurize and possibly rupture.
Risk
If the tank ruptures it may cause hydraulic fluid to spill. The ruptured tank can cause injuries from plastic debris. The spilled hydraulic fluid could be hot which could cause burn injuries. If the vehicle is on the road when the tank ruptures, the tank pieces or spilled hydraulic fluid may cause a road hazard which could increase the risk of a crash.
Remedy
McNeilus has notified owners, and dealers will replace the filler neck, free of charge. The recall began on June 4, 2018. Owners may contact McNeilus customer service at 1-888-686-7278. McNeilus' number for the recall is VSR-TSB-018.
