Starcraft Comet Recall 18V294: Camper Roof Can Fall Unexpectedly Due to Lift Damage

NHTSA campaign 18V294, reported May 3, 2018, 508 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

The power roof lift mechanism on these camping trailers can be damaged if the manual over-ride feature is misused. Torque from the drive motor may harm the lift mechanism, which can cause the roof to fall without warning.

A falling roof creates a risk of injury to people near or under the trailer. Starcraft will notify owners and provide a warning label that explains the proper use of the manual over-ride feature. The label and the notice are provided free of charge. To request the remedy, owners can contact Starcraft customer service at 1-800-945-4787, and they can check their VIN for any open recalls.
