RAM 5500 Recall 18V277: Brake hoses may corrode and leak fluid, risking brake loss

NHTSA campaign 18V277, reported May 1, 2018, 2,457 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Some brake hoses on these trucks may have been built without anti-corrosion plating on their metal end fittings, called ferrules. Over time, the unprotected ferrules can corrode. Corrosion can allow brake fluid to leak from the hoses between the master cylinder and the hydraulic control unit, which may lead to a loss of braking and a higher risk of a crash.

The repair is free. Dealers will inspect the primary and secondary brake hoses and replace them if needed. Owners will be notified by mail, but you can also check your VIN for open recalls and contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403, referencing recall number U41.
