MCI J4500 Recall 18V223: Left taillight may lose power, reducing rear visibility

NHTSA campaign 18V223, reported April 9, 2018, 197 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2018 J4500 coaches have a left rear taillight wiring harness branch in the engine compartment that may contact the engine coolant tank. This can cut power to the left taillight, and the vehicle then does not meet federal lighting requirements.

With the left taillight out, other drivers would have reduced visibility of the coach, which increases the risk of a crash. Owners should be alert to a dark left taillight and get the vehicle checked.

The repair is free at an authorized dealer: the wiring harness will be inspected and re-routed or repaired as needed. Motor Coach Industries will notify owners, and you can also contact MCI customer service at 1-800-241-2947 (recall SB 461). Check your VIN for open recalls to confirm whether your coach is affected.
