Honda Pilot Recall 18V221: Front seats may break loose in a crash

NHTSA campaign 18V221, reported April 5, 2018, 5,810 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2018 Acura MDX and Honda Pilot and Ridgeline vehicles may have front power seats assembled with improperly made rivets. In a crash, these rivets can break, so the seat may not stay secured to the floor. The Acura MDX affects the driver seat only, while the Honda Pilot and Ridgeline affect the driver and front passenger seats.

If a seat is not held firmly to the floor during a crash, the occupant faces an increased risk of injury. The vehicles may also fail to meet federal seating system and seat belt anchorage safety standards.

The repair is free at an authorized dealer: the driver seat frame assembly is replaced on the Acura MDX, and the driver and passenger seat slide rail frames are replaced on the Honda Pilot and Ridgeline. Owners can call Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138, and should check their VIN for open recalls. Honda's recall numbers for this campaign are D0S and T0T.
