Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 Recall 18V208: Driver Air Bag May Rupture and Injure Occupants

NHTSA campaign 18V208, reported March 29, 2018, 57 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

The driver-side front air bag inflator housing may have been made with defective steel. If the driver air bag deploys, the inflator may not inflate the bag properly and could rupture, sending sharp metal fragments toward the driver and other occupants.

An improperly inflated air bag or a ruptured inflator during a crash can cause serious injury or death. Owners should not ignore this recall, because the air bag is meant to protect the driver in a collision.

Mercedes-Benz USA will notify owners, and authorized dealers will replace the front driver air bag module free of charge. The recall is expected to begin May 29, 2018. You can contact Mercedes-Benz USA customer service at 1-800-367-6372, and you should check your vehicle's VIN for open recalls.
