Fccc XCM Recall 18V163: Power Steering Hose May Rub Starter, Risking Fire

NHTSA campaign 18V163, reported March 12, 2018, 9,480 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

The power steering hose on certain Freightliner Custom Chassis recreational vehicle chassis may be routed incorrectly. In that case the hose can rub against the power stud on the starter motor, which may cause electrical arcing and a power steering fluid leak.

Electrical arcing in the presence of leaking power steering fluid can increase the risk of a fire. If you own an affected vehicle, check your VIN for open recalls and contact Daimler Trucks North America customer service at 1-800-547-0712 (recall number FL-762). This recall expands an earlier recall, 16V-809. The remedy is free: an authorized dealer will reroute the power steering hose to provide proper clearance, and owners will be notified by DTNA, with the recall expected to begin in May 2018.
