- Component
- ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:COOLING SYSTEM
- Problem
- Nova Bus (Nova) is recalling certain 2013 LFS transit buses equipped with transmission oil coolers. In the event of a transmission oil cooler failure, transmission fluid may mix with coolant that circulates through the passenger compartment heating system. Exposure to transmission fluid may degrade the PEX connectors of the heating system, resulting in hot coolant leaking into the passenger area.
- Risk
- Leaking coolant could come into contact with passengers, increasing their risk of injury.
- Remedy
- Nova will notify owners, and dealers will replace the PEX fittings with brass fittings, free of charge. The recall began on March 6, 2018. Owners may contact Nova customer service at 1-800-350-6682. Nova's number for this recall is CR4226.
- Notes
- Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
What this recall means for you
Certain 2013 Nova Bus LFS transit buses have transmission oil coolers that can fail. If that happens, transmission fluid can mix with the coolant that circulates through the passenger heating system, and the fluid can degrade the plastic PEX connectors in that system. Hot coolant may then leak into the passenger area.
Leaking hot coolant could come into contact with passengers and increase their risk of injury. Owners will be notified by Nova Bus, and the remedy is free: authorized dealers will replace the PEX fittings with brass fittings at no charge. The recall began March 6, 2018.
If you operate or own one of these buses, contact Nova Bus customer service at 1-800-350-6682 and check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for open recalls.
