Jeep Wrangler Recall 18V098: Brake Switch May Stick Lights On or Allow Shifting Out of Park

NHTSA campaign 18V098, reported February 8, 2018, 39,456 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Some brake switches in these vehicles may malfunction. The problem can keep the brake lights illuminated continuously, or allow the vehicle to be shifted out of PARK without the brake pedal being pressed while the ignition is in RUN mode.

Both conditions can increase the risk of a crash. Continuously lit brake lights can confuse drivers behind you, and shifting out of PARK without the brake applied can cause the vehicle to move unexpectedly.

The repair is free. Dealers will replace the brake switches at no charge. Owners may also contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403 (recall number U09). Check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for open recalls to confirm whether your vehicle is affected.
