NHTSA campaign 18V031, reported January 9, 2018, 17,846 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

The passenger-side frontal airbag inflator in certain vehicles can degrade over time due to long-term exposure to humidity and temperature changes. If the airbag deploys in a crash, the inflator may explode, sending sharp metal fragments toward the driver or other occupants. This can cause serious injury or death.

Tesla will notify affected owners and replace the passenger frontal airbag modules at no cost. The repair is free at Tesla Service Centers. Owners can contact Tesla customer service at 1-877-798-3752 and should check their vehicle identification number (VIN) for any open recalls.
