Newmar BAY Star Recall 17V843: Brake Fluid Leak Could Lengthen Stopping Distance

NHTSA campaign 17V843, reported December 26, 2017, 30 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2017 Newmar motorhomes built on Ford chassis with antilock brakes may be missing valve block ball plugs in the brake Hydraulic Electronic Control Unit (HECU). This can allow a brake fluid leak or air to enter the system during electronic brake distribution or ABS activation.

A brake fluid leak or air ingestion can make it take longer to stop the vehicle, which raises the risk of a crash. Owners should take this recall seriously and have the vehicle checked as soon as possible.

The inspection and, if needed, replacement of the HECU is free at an authorized Ford or Lincoln dealer. Newmar will notify owners directly. You can also contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 or Newmar customer service at 1-800-731-8300, and check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for open recalls.
