Mercedes-Benz AMG GT Recall 17V818: Passenger Airbag May Turn On or Off Incorrectly in a Crash

NHTSA campaign 17V818, reported December 18, 2017, 8 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

The passenger occupant classification system, which decides whether the passenger frontal airbag should be active, may not work properly. As a result, the passenger frontal airbag could be incorrectly deactivated or incorrectly activated in a crash.

An airbag that deploys when it should not, or fails to deploy when it should, increases the risk of injury to the front passenger in a collision. Owners should take this seriously and have the repair done as soon as it is available.

The remedy is free at an authorized Mercedes-Benz dealer. The dealer will update the occupant classification system software and, if necessary, replace the passenger seat cushion. Owners will receive a notice in January 2018 and a second letter when parts are available, currently expected in February 2018. You can also contact Mercedes-Benz USA customer service at 1-877-496-3691, and check your VIN for any open recalls.
