Mazda B-Series Truck Recall 17V807: Driver Airbag May Rupture and Spray Metal Fragments

NHTSA campaign 17V807, reported December 14, 2017, 17,576 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

The driver-side frontal airbag inflator can rupture when the airbag deploys in a crash, because internal pressure builds up too high. Metal fragments released by the rupture can strike the driver and passengers, which could cause serious injury or death.

If your truck is affected, the owner notice advises you not to drive it until the repair has been done. The driver's frontal airbag inflator will be replaced with an alternate inflator at no cost at an authorized dealer. If you previously received a replacement inflator under the earlier recall (16V-048), you still need to return to a dealer so the alternate inflator can be installed.

To check whether your vehicle is included, contact Mazda customer service at 1-800-222-5500 and reference recall number 1917L, or check your VIN for open recalls through the NHTSA website. Mazda will also notify registered owners directly.
