Mazda B-Series Truck Recall 17V806: Passenger airbag may rupture, spraying metal fragments

NHTSA campaign 17V806, reported December 14, 2017, 17,576 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

The passenger-side frontal airbag inflator can rupture when the airbag deploys, because internal pressure can become excessive. In a crash that deploys this airbag, metal fragments could strike occupants, which may cause serious injury or death.

Owners are advised not to drive the affected vehicle until the repair has been performed. The dealer will replace the passenger-side frontal airbag inflator with an alternate inflator at no charge. If your truck received a replacement inflator under the earlier recall 15V-346, it still needs to return to a dealer to have an alternate inflator installed.

To check whether your vehicle is affected, contact Mazda customer service at 1-800-222-5500 and reference recall 1817L, or check your VIN for open recalls.
