Ford Ranger Recall 17V788: Passenger airbag inflator may rupture in a crash

NHTSA campaign 17V788, reported December 11, 2017, 328,213 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

The passenger-side frontal airbag inflator can build up excessive internal pressure when the airbag deploys, which may cause the inflator to rupture. In a crash that requires the passenger airbag to deploy, metal fragments could strike occupants, potentially causing serious injury or death.

Owners are advised not to drive the vehicle until the repair has been completed. Dealers will replace the passenger airbag inflator with an alternate inflator at no cost. If your truck previously received a replacement inflator under the earlier interim recall (15V322), you still need to return to a dealer so an alternate inflator can be installed. Contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332, referencing recall 17S42, or check your VIN for open recalls to confirm your vehicle's status.
