Burch Cargo Tank Recall 17V733: Brake caliper bolts may loosen, causing loss of braking

NHTSA campaign 17V733, reported November 20, 2017, 8 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2017 cargo tank trailers equipped with MPA/MTA suspensions and Meritor EX225 brakes may have brake caliper bolts that were not properly torqued at the factory. If the bolts are too loose, the brake caliper can detach from its mounting flange.

If a caliper detaches, the trailer can lose braking ability, which increases the risk of a crash. Owners should take this recall seriously and have the vehicle checked promptly.

The remedy is free. Authorized dealers will inspect the caliper bolts and replace any that are loose or missing. Fleets will be reimbursed by Meritor for this work. Owners can contact Burch customer service at 1-800-882-7640 or the Meritor call center at 1-866-668-7221, and can check their VIN for open recalls.
