Mercedes-Benz G63 Recall 17V713: Engine May Not Cut Power When Braking, Raising Crash Risk

NHTSA campaign 17V713, reported November 14, 2017, 8,043 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

A malfunction of the Electronic Stability Program (ESP) while Distronic Plus adaptive cruise control is engaged can cause the engine to fail to reduce power, regardless of vehicle speed, driving situation or brake application. Stopping the vehicle may then require more braking effort or shifting into neutral, which lengthens the stopping distance.

This increases the risk of a crash. Owners should be aware that the vehicle may not slow as expected when Distronic Plus is in use.

The repair is free. Mercedes-Benz will notify owners, and authorized dealers will reprogram the ESP control unit software at no charge. To check whether your vehicle has open recalls, enter your VIN on the NHTSA website or contact Mercedes-Benz USA customer service at 1-800-367-6372, referencing recall number 2017110012.
