MCI J4500 Recall 17V687: Crossed air lines may delay low-air warnings, raising crash risk

NHTSA campaign 17V687, reported October 30, 2017, 35 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

On certain 2018 buses, the primary and secondary air lines were connected to the wrong air pressure gauges. As a result, the gauges show incorrect pressure readings. The buses also do not meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 121 for air brake systems.

The incorrect readings can delay the driver's reaction to a low air condition, which may increase the risk of a crash.

Owners will be notified by Motor Coach Industries (MCI). Authorized dealers will inspect the air lines for proper connection and repair them as needed, at no cost to you. To check whether your vehicle is affected, contact MCI customer service at 1-800-241-29471 and reference recall SB 455. You can also check your VIN for open recalls.
