Mitsubishi Mirage Recall 17V686: Air Bags May Not Deploy in a Crash

NHTSA campaign 17V686, reported October 30, 2017, 83,555 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

The airbag control unit's internal acceleration sensor can mistake vibrations, such as those from rough roads or a flat tire, for a sensor fault. When that happens, the system can disable the airbags so they do not deploy in a crash.

Airbags that fail to deploy as designed in a crash increase the risk of injury to occupants. This recall covers certain 2014 through 2018 Mitsubishi Mirage vehicles.

Owners should contact Mitsubishi Motors North America customer service at 1-888-648-7820 or visit an authorized dealer. Dealers will reprogram the airbag control unit software free of charge. You can also check your VIN for open recalls on the NHTSA website.
