Mercedes-Benz GLE 350 Recall 17V655: Passenger Front Airbag May Not Deploy Properly in Crash

NHTSA campaign 17V655, reported October 17, 2017, 3,620 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Excess insulation in the bulkhead area may extend into the lower windshield zone, which could affect how the windshield is bonded and how fully the front passenger airbag protects the seat occupant.

If the passenger frontal airbag does not work as designed in a crash, the front seat passenger faces a higher risk of injury.

Dealers will remove any excess bulkhead insulation and rework the windshield bonding where needed, at no cost to the owner. Interim owner letters were scheduled to be mailed in December 2017, with a second notice when the remedy is available in late January 2018. Owners can call Mercedes-Benz USA customer service at 1-877-496-3691, and can check their VIN for any open recalls at an authorized dealer.
