Tesla Model X Recall 17V639: Left Second-Row Seat Back May Not Latch, Raising Crash Injury Risk

NHTSA campaign 17V639, reported October 12, 2017, 4,582 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2016 and 2017 Tesla Model X vehicles may have an incorrectly adjusted recliner mechanism cable on the left-side, second-row seat. As a result, the seat back may not fully latch, and it may not meet federal seating and seat belt anchorage safety standards.

If the seat back moves forward during a crash, the risk of injury increases. Owners should take this recall seriously even if the seat appears to work normally.

Tesla will notify affected owners, and authorized service technicians will correct the cable adjustment on the left-side, fold-flat, second-row seat recliner mechanism free of charge. Owners can contact Tesla customer service at 1-877-798-3752 and reference recall number SB-17-13-004. You can also check your VIN for open recalls to confirm whether your vehicle is affected.
