Evans Flatbed Trailer Recall 17V632: Brake Diaphragm May Leak Air, Causing Brake Drag

NHTSA campaign 17V632, reported October 6, 2017, 7 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

The air brake diaphragm in the quick release valve may degrade over time and allow brake system air to leak. This can cause the emergency brakes to engage partially or fully while driving.

When the emergency brakes apply unexpectedly, the wheel ends can overheat or the trailer can drag, slowing or stopping the vehicle. This increases the risk of a crash.

Owners will be notified by John Evans Manufacturing Co. Authorized service centers will install heavy duty diaphragms in the quick release valves at no cost. Owners can contact John Evans customer service at 1-704-436-2590, and should check their VIN for any open recalls.
