Cheetah Tank Chassis Recall 17V630: Brakes May Drag or Engage Unexpectedly on Trailer Chassis

NHTSA campaign 17V630, reported October 5, 2017, 508 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

The air brake diaphragm in the quick release valve on certain trailer chassis may degrade over time. When this happens, brake system air can leak from the valve, causing the emergency brakes to partially or fully engage.

If the emergency brakes apply in whole or in part while driving, the wheel ends can overheat or the vehicle can drag, slowing or stopping it unexpectedly. This increases the risk of a crash.

Owners should contact Cheetah Chassis Corporation at 1-704-436-2590 or take the vehicle to an authorized service center. Cheetah will notify owners, and the remedy is free: service centers will install heavy duty diaphragms in the quick release valves at no charge. You can also check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for open recalls.
