Subaru WRX Recall 17V625: Trunk Items Can Short Subwoofer Wiring, Creating Fire Risk

NHTSA campaign 17V625, reported October 6, 2017, 9,178 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2015 WRX vehicles with the optional factory-installed trunk subwoofer may have a problem with the subwoofer wiring. Items stored in the trunk can cause the wiring to contact the metal frame of the subwoofer, which may result in an electrical short.

An electrical short can damage the subwoofer amplifier and cause the subwoofer to overheat, which increases the risk of a fire. Owners should take this recall seriously and act on it promptly.

Subaru will notify affected owners. Dealers will inspect the subwoofer wire, install a wire retainer clip, and replace the subwoofer if needed, all free of charge. To check whether your vehicle is included, contact Subaru customer service at 1-800-782-2783 (Subaru recall number WTQ-76), and check your VIN for open recalls.
