Kia Soul Recall 17V608: Steering Can Be Lost if Pinion Gear Separates

NHTSA campaign 17V608, reported September 29, 2017, 342,381 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

The pinion plug in the steering gear assembly may allow the pinion gear to separate from the steering gear. If the pinion gear separates, the driver can lose steering, which raises the risk of a crash.

Kia will notify owners. Authorized dealers will inspect and secure the pinion plug, or replace the steering gear assembly if needed, at no cost to the owner. This recall supersedes earlier campaigns 14V-332 and 15V-736, and vehicles previously repaired under those campaigns are being recalled again under this one. Owners can contact Kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542 (Kia recall number SC155), and should check their vehicle identification number (VIN) for open recalls.
