Silver Eagle VAST-20W Recall 17V606: Loose Brake Caliper Bolts Can Cause Loss of Braking

NHTSA campaign 17V606, reported September 28, 2017, 20 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain trailers have brake caliper bolts that may not have been properly torqued. Over time, a caliper can detach from its mounting flange, which would cause a loss of braking ability and raise the risk of a crash. The vehicles also fail to meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 121 for air brake systems.

The remedy is an inspection of the caliper bolts, with any loose or missing bolts replaced. The repair is free. Fleet owners will be reimbursed by Meritor for the work. Owners can contact Silver Eagle customer service at 1-800-547-6792 or the Meritor call center at 1-866-668-7221. Check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for open recalls to confirm whether your unit is affected.
