- Risk
- Other motorists may not be able to identify the correct length of a trailer, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy
- C&M will notify owners, and dealers will correct the height of the markers, free of charge. The recall began on October 23, 2017. Owners may contact C&M's customer service at 1-972-875-4528.
- Notes
- Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
What this recall means for you
Certain trailers over 80 inches wide were built with side marker lamps mounted higher than 60 inches off the ground. That placement does not meet federal lighting requirements, so the lamps may not clearly show other drivers how long the trailer is.
When other motorists cannot judge a trailer's length accurately, they may misjudge gaps for passing, merging, or following distance, which increases the risk of a crash.
The manufacturer, C&M Trailers Inc., will notify affected owners. Authorized dealers will move the side marker lamps to the correct height at no cost to you. You can contact C&M customer service at 1-972-875-4528, and you should also check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for any open recalls.
