IC Bus Cesb Recall 17V579: Brake hose can rub tire, causing brake fluid leak

NHTSA campaign 17V579, reported September 20, 2017, 228 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

On certain school buses, the hydraulic brake hose on the front (steer) axle may be routed improperly, so it can contact the tire. Over time, that contact can cause the hose to leak brake fluid.

Brake fluid loss reduces braking performance and raises the risk of a crash. Owners should take this recall seriously and have the vehicle inspected promptly.

The repair is free at an authorized dealer: the brake hose will be correctly routed, and the drop hose will be replaced if damage is found. Navistar will notify owners directly, and you can also contact Navistar customer service at 1-331-332-1590. Check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for open recalls to confirm whether your bus is affected.
