Mitsubishi Lancer Recall 17V569: Passenger Airbag Inflator May Rupture in a Crash

NHTSA campaign 17V569, reported September 14, 2017, 66,001 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

The passenger-side frontal airbag inflator in these vehicles can be affected by moisture getting into the module. Over time, that moisture can cause the inflator to rupture when the airbag deploys.

If the airbag deploys in a crash, a ruptured inflator can send metal fragments toward the occupants, which could cause serious injury or death. This recall supersedes an earlier recall, 15V-321.

The replacement inflator is free of charge. Contact Mitsubishi customer service at 1-888-648-7820 or take your vehicle to an authorized Mitsubishi dealer, who will replace the passenger airbag inflator at no cost. Check your VIN for open recalls to confirm whether your vehicle is included.
