Chevrolet Silverado 2500 Recall 17V567: Front Seat Belts May Not Work as Intended in a Crash

NHTSA campaign 17V567, reported September 14, 2017, 38,048 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain front seat belt retractors were built with the wrong torsion bar, so the belts may not perform as designed during a crash. The vehicles also fail to meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 209 for seat belt assemblies. This raises the risk of injury to front-seat occupants in a collision.

If you own a affected 2017 or 2018 Chevrolet Silverado or GMC Sierra 2500 or 3500 truck, General Motors will notify you by mail. Authorized dealers will replace both front seat belt retractor assemblies at no cost to you. You can contact GMC customer service at 1-888-988-7267 or Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 for more information.

You should also check your vehicle identification number (VIN) on the NHTSA or manufacturer recall lookup to confirm whether your truck has an open recall, and schedule the free repair with a dealer as soon as possible.
