Forest River Rockwood Recall 17V517: Rear axle nut may be overtightened, risking wheel separation

NHTSA campaign 17V517, reported August 23, 2017, 69 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2018 recreational trailers equipped with Dexter axles may have had their rear axle spindle nut torqued beyond the required specification. An overtightened nut can cause the hub bearings to fail, and the tire and rim may separate from the axle. Losing a wheel can cause a loss of vehicle control and increase the risk of a crash.

If you own an affected trailer, you are entitled to a free inspection and repair. Dexter axle dealers will inspect the axle and replace any suspect bearings, hubs, and spindle nuts at no cost. Forest River will also notify registered owners directly.

Contact Forest River customer service at 1-574-642-5164 or Dexter Axle at 1-574-295-7888, and check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for open recalls.
