Audi A3 Cabriolet Recall 17V508: Engine May Stall on Startup, Raising Crash Risk

NHTSA campaign 17V508, reported August 16, 2017, 8,383 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain vehicles may have engine control software that misreads normal engine rotation at startup as a knocking condition. The software then adjusts the air and fuel mixture in a way that can cause the engine to stall.

An engine stall can increase the risk of a crash, particularly if it happens while the vehicle is in traffic or at speed. Owners should be aware of this risk and take the recall seriously.

Audi will notify affected owners, and an authorized dealer will reprogram the engine control unit software at no cost to you. Owners can also contact Audi customer service at 1-800-253-2834, and should check their VIN for open recalls.
