Hino NE8J Recall 17V493: Loose Door Hinge Bolts Could Let Door Open While Driving

NHTSA campaign 17V493, reported August 7, 2017, 99 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Some 2018 Hino trucks may have door hinge bolts that were not tightened enough during assembly. Over time, a loose hinge can let the door operate improperly and possibly swing open while the vehicle is being driven. The vehicles also fail to meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 206 for door locks and door retention components.

An open door raises the risk of a crash and of injury to the driver or passengers. If you own an affected vehicle, contact Hino customer service at 1-248-699-9300 and reference recall number M0300. Hino will notify owners, and an authorized dealer will tighten the door hinge bolts as needed at no cost to you.

You can also check whether your vehicle has any open recalls by entering its VIN on the NHTSA recall lookup site. Have your door hinges inspected promptly if you have not yet received a notice.
