What this recall means for you
Some 2017 Jeep Renegade vehicles have a software problem that can cause several malfunction indicator lamps on the instrument panel to light up when no fault exists. The lights may also come on at the wrong times, so the dashboard's warnings are unreliable.
The danger is that a driver may stop paying attention to the warning lights, and so may miss a real malfunction when it occurs. That increases the risk of a crash. The vehicles do not meet the federal display standard (FMVSS 101) for this reason.
The repair is free. Dealers will update the Instrument Panel Control software. Owners will be notified by Chrysler, and can also contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403 (recall number T50). The recall began September 14, 2017. Check your VIN for open recalls to confirm whether your vehicle is included.
