- Component
- BACK OVER PREVENTION: BACK-UP ALARM
- Problem
- McNeilus Truck & Manufacturing, Inc. (McNeilus) is recalling certain 2016-2017 Bridgemaster V concrete mixers, equipped with both FLEX Controls and an optional broadband backup alarm. The backup camera display may shut off and the alarm may stop sounding if the truck is in reverse for an extended period of time.
- Risk
- If the backup alarm stops emitting the alarm sound when the truck is still reversing, others may not be alerted that the truck is backing up, increasing the risk of personal injury.
- Remedy
- McNeilus has notified owners, and dealers will add a relay into the electrical circuit for the backup alarm system, free of charge. Owners may contact McNeilus customer service at 1-507-374-6321.
- Notes
- Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
What this recall means for you
On certain 2016 and 2017 McNeilus Bridgemaster V concrete mixers equipped with FLEX Controls and an optional broadband backup alarm, the backup camera display may shut off and the backup alarm may stop sounding if the truck stays in reverse for an extended period.
If the alarm stops sounding while the truck is still backing up, people nearby may not be warned that the truck is moving in reverse, which increases the risk of serious injury to pedestrians and workers.
McNeilus has notified owners, and authorized dealers will install a relay in the backup alarm's electrical circuit at no charge. Owners can contact McNeilus customer service at 1-507-374-6321, and should check their vehicle identification number for open recalls.
