- Problem
- Vantage Mobility International, LLC (Vantage Mobility) is recalling certain 2017 Chrysler Pacifica lowered floor vans modified by Vantage Mobility for wheelchair accessibility. The affected vans have rear brake lines that might have been crossed during the modification. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 135, "Light Vehicle Brake Systems."
- Risk
- The crossed rear brake lines will cause the rear anti-lock brake system to be ineffective, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy
- Vantage Mobility will notify owners, and dealers will correct the rear brake line attachments, free of charge. The recall began on July 3, 2017. Owners may contact Vantage Mobility customer service at 1-800-488-9082. Vantage Mobility's number for this recall is Pac-20170525.
- Notes
- Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
What this recall means for you
Certain wheelchair-accessible lowered-floor vans were modified after sale, and the rear brake lines may have been crossed during that work. Because of this, the rear anti-lock brake system may not work, and the vehicle may not meet the federal brake safety standard for light vehicles.
With the rear ABS ineffective, the risk of a crash increases, especially in situations that call for controlled braking. If you own a lowered-floor van that was modified for wheelchair accessibility, have it checked as soon as possible.
The repair is free. Vantage Mobility will notify owners, and an authorized dealer will correct the rear brake line attachments at no cost. You can contact Vantage Mobility customer service at 1-800-488-9082 and reference recall number Pac-20170525. You can also check your VIN for any open recalls.
