MCI D4000 Recall 17V337: Exhaust pipe can fail and raise fire risk

NHTSA campaign 17V337, reported May 24, 2017, 143 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain 2011-2012 MCI D4000, D4005, D4500 and D4505 coaches with Cummins ISX 12 liter engines may have an exhaust bellow pipe that was installed incorrectly. The pipe can bend, and over time that bend can cause the pipe to fail prematurely.

If the pipe fails and a diesel regeneration cycle occurs, hot exhaust gases can increase the risk of a fire. Owners should take this recall seriously and have their coach checked promptly.

MCI will notify owners, and authorized dealers will inspect the exhaust bellow pipe and replace any deformed or failed pipe if necessary. The repair is free of charge. The recall began on June 15, 2017. To learn more, contact Motor Coach Industries at 1-800-241-2947 and refer to MCI recall number SB 397B. You can also check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for any open recalls.
