- Problem
- Spartan Motors USA (Spartan) is recalling certain 2008-2017 Gladiator and MetroStar emergency response vehicles equipped with a supplemental park brake system (SPBS). The directions to activate the SPBS incorrectly state to "Pull" the actuation knob, when it should say "Push."

What this recall means for you
The instructions on the supplemental park brake actuator knob tell the operator to pull the knob to apply the supplemental front park brake, but the correct action is to push it. An operator who follows the label may believe the front park brake is engaged when it is not.
Because the brake is not actually applied, the vehicle may unexpectedly roll, which increases the risk of a crash. This recall covers certain Gladiator and MetroStar emergency response vehicles from 2008 through 2017 that are equipped with a supplemental park brake system.
Owners will be notified and Spartan will supply a new actuator control knob with the correct directions at no charge. You can contact Spartan customer service at 1-517-543-6400 and reference recall number 17009. Check your vehicle's VIN for any open recalls.
