Chevrolet Caprice Police Pursuit Recall 17V265: Loss of Power Steering Assist Can Raise Crash Risk

NHTSA campaign 17V265, reported April 20, 2017, 823 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

A connector between the electric power steering module and the torque sensor may fail in certain Chevrolet Caprice Police Pursuit vehicles. If this happens, the vehicle can lose electric power steering assist, so the driver must apply greater effort to steer, especially at lower speeds. That added effort can make it harder to control the vehicle and increases the risk of a crash. These vehicles were previously remedied under an earlier recall, and this recall covers them again.

General Motors will notify owners. Dealers will inspect the steering gear assembly and replace it as necessary, at no cost to the owner. Owners can contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 with questions. You can also check your vehicle identification number (VIN) for open recalls on the NHTSA website or with your dealer.
