Micro Bird MB II School Bus Recall 17V255: School Bus Roof May Crush in a Rollover, Raising Injury Risk

What this recall means for you

Certain 2012-2017 MB II school buses may have roof strength that is insufficient to prevent the roof from crushing in a rollover. The vehicles do not meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 220, which covers school bus rollover protection. If the roof crushes during a rollover, occupants face an increased risk of injury.

The manufacturer, Micro Bird Inc., will notify owners. Authorized dealers will modify the buses to keep the roof from crushing, and the repair is free of charge. The recall began on June 5, 2017. Owners can contact Micro Bird customer service at 1-819-477-2012, referencing recall number 17-070-SUS. This recall supersedes recall 15V-683.

Problem
Corp. Micro Bird Inc. (Micro Bird) is recalling certain 2012-2017 MB II school buses. In the event of a rollover, the roof strength may be insufficient to prevent the roof from crushing. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 220, "School Bus Rollover Protection."
Risk
In the event of a rollover, if the school bus roof crushes, the occupants have an increased risk of injury.
Remedy
Micro Bird will notify owners, and dealers will modify the buses to prevent the roof from crushing, free of charge. The recall began on June 5, 2017. Owners may contact Micro Bird customer service at 1-819-477-2012. Micro Bird's number for this recall is 17-070-SUS. Note: This recall supersedes recall 15V-683.
