Proline Cargo Trailer Recall 17V248: Wheels Can Loosen or Detach, Raising Crash Risk

NHTSA campaign 17V248, reported April 10, 2017, 54 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Certain cargo trailers equipped with 3500 lb galvanized Dexter Torflex axles have acorn wheel nuts that are too short to properly secure the wheels to the hub. Because of this, the wheels may loosen or detach while the trailer is in use.

If a trailer wheel loosens or comes off, the risk of a crash increases. Stop using the trailer if you notice wobbling, unusual noises, or any sign that a wheel may be loose, and do not tow it until the issue is checked.

Owners will be notified by PROLine, and authorized dealers will replace the acorn wheel nuts free of charge. You can contact PROLine customer service at 1-800-994-0960 for more information, and check your VIN for any open recalls.
