Mercedes-Benz C 300 Recall 17V243: Steering Assist Can Cut Out, Raising Crash Risk

NHTSA campaign 17V243, reported April 11, 2017, 3 vehicles potentially affected.

What this recall means for you

Some 2016-2017 Mercedes-Benz C300 vehicles may have electrical contacts for the power steering electric motor that were not properly welded. Over time, this can lead to a loss of electrical contact.

If contact is lost, the electric power steering assist will deactivate, making the vehicle harder to steer and increasing the risk of a crash. Owners should be aware of this safety issue and take it seriously.

Mercedes-Benz USA will notify affected owners, and authorized dealers will replace the electric power steering rack free of charge. Owners can contact MBUSA customer service at 1-800-367-6372 for more information, and should check their VIN for any open recalls.
