What this recall means for you
Machining errors during engine manufacturing can cause the engine's bearings to wear out prematurely. As the bearings degrade, the engine may seize, meaning it can suddenly stop running while the vehicle is in use. A sudden loss of engine power increases the risk of a crash.
The repair is free. Dealers will inspect the engine assembly and replace the engine if necessary, at no cost to the owner. Kia will notify affected owners directly. If you own a 2011-2014 Optima, 2012-2014 Sorento, or 2011-2013 Sportage, check your vehicle's VIN for open recalls and contact Kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542, referencing recall SC147.
Until the inspection is complete, watch for warning signs such as unusual engine noises, knocking, or a loss of power, and have the vehicle checked promptly if you notice them.
